This past Saturday was a beautiful day and unseasonably warm for January, so Justin and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for a road trip to one of our favorite spots: Ogunquit, Maine.

There is definitely a fine line between charming and depressing when it comes to beach towns in the winter; Ogunquit is the kind of town that errs on the charming no matter what time of year it is. Most of the businesses had “closed for the season” signs in their windows but it just makes it all the more endearing. The usual crowds are gone, parking is free and the rocks that lead down to the water are covered in snow.

There is a pathway called Marginal Way along the water that starts in Ogunquit center and ends in Perkins Cove, which is a little former fishing village that is now home to shops, restaurants and great views of the ocean on one side and a harbor on the other. The pathway is a mile and a half long and pretty flat so it’s a nice walk for folks of all ages. The views of the cliffs are amazing and you can also do some pretty solid creeping on all of the hotels and beautiful houses along the way. They also allow dogs during the off season (but B sat this one out).

Once we got to Perkin’s Cove, we went to a spot on the water called Jackie’s Too for lunch. We enjoyed a lobster roll, a chicken sandwich and the awesome view:

And then walked around Perkin’s Cove a little bit.

This beautiful building is the Ogunquit Memorial Library, built in 1897. Isn’t the detail amazing?

Ogunquit is a great little town; they have a ton of shops and restaurants, a great (huge) beach and a pretty happenin’ night life. If you’re ever looking for a vacation destination, we would recommend it!
