On The Road Again

Hey folks! This is going to be a short post because Justin and I are getting ourselves ready to hit the road and head on up to the Tough Mudder in Vermont. Huzzah!

For those of you who don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, a Tough Mudder event is a “hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.” (source) This particular event in Vermont is 10 miles long and has 30 obstacles. We are hoping that the weather will be nice and sunny since a couple of the obstacles along the course involve bodies of water or various other horrors. Here are a few examples from the TM website:

  • Walk the Plank: Test your fear of heights and cold all in one with our 15-feet high splash into the pond followed by a swim back out.

Or…

  • Twinkle Toes: Make your way across a log bridge without falling into a freezing cold pile of snow.

And who could forget…

  • Arctic Enema: Jump into this icy cold bath, it’s going to make your guts tremble.

From what I can gather, that last one takes place in a pool full of water and ice. My guts are trembling just thinking about it.

You know, the more I read about these obstacles, the more I want to get out there and run them myself. Yeah, I think I’m going to do it! Sign me up!

What’s that? It’s too late to sign up? Shoot. Well, you win some, you lose some. I guess I’ll hold down the fort on the sidelines with a coffee and document it for you guys. You’re welcome in advance.

Justin’s start time is scheduled for noon, but they recommend getting there about 2 hours early to start the registration process. It’s probably going to be kind of a long day with a lot of waiting around (for the spectators – probably not so much for the participants) so Brody decided to sit this one out. Don’t worry though, his friend Josh (Justin’s brother) is coming to stay with him; they’re probably going to have a huge party so we’re obviously hiding the valuables (what valuables, you ask? Why, the Modern Family Season 1 DVDs and my reflective running vest, of course. You know, the important stuff.)

So we will be back on Monday with a recap and pictures and (hopefully) no stories of the cops getting called on B and Josh while we were gone. Make us proud, Brody!
