Alternate title: Our Adventures In House Hunting. (And A Birthday)
Hello and happy Wednesday!
This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind around here.
I mentioned in last week’s post that we have been house hunting, which is an exciting process most of the time and a complete roller coaster of emotions all of the time. We found what was pretty much a dream house last weekend – totally move-in ready, updated everything (except for a pink bathroom upstairs) and with so much historic charm that it made my heart hurt. Sure, it was creeping up towards the top of our budget (to put it mildly), but it was so lovely that we had to make an offer.
Apparently a lot of other people felt the same way because the next day, one day after the first open house, they accepted an offer that was solidly above ours. It was a kick in the pants but we soldiered on and tried to push aside the feeling that we would “never love another house again after losing that one” (which is (verbatim) what I wrote to Justin in a text when we got the news. I don’t know why they say that women lose control of their emotions when they get pregnant).
But the pain was short-lived because after looking at a few more homes, we found one that caught our eye. It’s not quite as move-in ready as the other place, but it’s got tons of potential and charm and Justin and I are excited at the idea of trying to tackle some projects ourselves. So we made an offer and we are staying cautiously optimistic that things go smoothly from here; it’s an older home (which is right up our alley – we love us a turn of the century house), so we wouldn’t be surprised if something came up in the inspection, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
I’m sure our renovation savvy friends and family are quaking in their work boots and trying to book extended vacations around the time of our potential closing date, but they should know that they will be rewarded handsomely with gratitude and baked goods.
In between house hunting adventures, we’ve been doing other fun stuff like celebrating this monster’s 3rd birthday!
Yup, our little beast is the big 0-3. It feels like just yesterday that he was peeing all over the house and sinking his little needle teeth into our ankles when we least expected it.
This picture gets me every time. That little face is the reason that we didn’t put in on the next train to Ohio after all of his puppy shenanigans – he couldn’t possibly be any cuter. And plus, he’s stepping on a cat – I mean, come on.
In keeping with tradition, we got him a birthday treat to mark the occasion. It thrilled him to no end, though he was less than pleased that he had to sit and wait for the treat first.
And now we’re waiting for the maturity that comes with 3 years of living and learning to kick in. No sign of it yet, we’ll keep you updated.
Happy birthday Brode!
Happy house hunting. You will find something and it will click when you see it. Then all of the karma in the world will bestow you and work out my friend. Don’t give up 🙂 And happy birthday Brode. My mommy’s birthday is today. XOXO – Bacon
Thanks Bacon! Happy (belated) birthday to your mom!
