The second weekend in May is always a pretty busy time around these parts. Not only do we celebrate Mother’s Day, but we also throw in a few birthdays just to make things interesting.

My dad is kind enough to share his birthday (May 10th) with his youngest daughter (me), and since the day usually falls on or around the second Sunday in May, we combine the festivities and have one big bash. My sister Heather and her husband Chris were nice enough to host this year’s Mother’s Day/birthday dinner and we ate our fill of delicious BBQ and a seriously impressive dessert spread.

Before getting together with my family on Sunday, Justin and I snuck out of work early on Friday to head down to the Cape for a low-key birthday celebration. It was a beautiful day and we were thrilled to be able to spend some time at the beach and then grill out for dinner.

Since it’s still early in the season, the beach was pretty empty and Brody was pumped to be back by the ocean, accidentally eating sand and running around until we pretty much had to carry him back to the car.
